Production Management

The MFA Production Management specialization focuses on developing the skills necessary for managing people, resources and time in a variety of creative environments, where leadership and versatility must be combined with a broad knowledge of design and production issues.

The Program trains students in various management styles and structures, labor relations, and production processes in both live performance and film/video. Graduates emerge with an understanding of the ideas and practices of leadership and management, fully engaged as project managers in the entertainment industry. Students develop the leadership skills necessary to manage a technical process with artists and craftspeople, collaborating and communicating with all parties across creative projects.

Students work as production managers and assistant production managers on projects and workshops presented by the School of Theater and the CalArts Center for New Performance (CNP).
