Lieyang Yan is a sound designer and MFA candidate at California Institute of the Arts. Her background in Guzheng performance and Western music history grounds her practice in an attentiveness to timbre, structure, and the cultural life of sound. Her work centers on field recording and the acoustic observation of urban environments, attending to the ways human-built spaces are continuously shaped by and entangled with non-human presences. Through recorded sound and spatial composition, she creates works that move between documentary and abstraction, using resonance as both material and method.
