Rose MacQueen

I’m Rose MacQueen, a costume designer and seamstress from Burlington, Vermont. I’ve been designing for the stage since 2018, and have worked on shows including An Enemy of The People, Godspell, and The Tragedy of Macbeth. I’ve also worked on concept and character designs, and love diving into new and different art forms. My work as a costume designer is deeply motivated by cultural research and interpersonal relationships between characters. I’m motivated by texture, color, and movement, and work to create rich visual language for both the audience and the performer. From a luxurious period gown to a simple t-shirt and jeans, every piece that goes on stage has a story, a motivation, and a reason. I favor fairytale and storybook influences, bringing the whimsy and magic from childhood to adulthood. Every culture has a deep history of folk tales and myth, so using those baselines I try to create worlds that seem deeper than just what we’re shown on stage.
