Niyati Ramachandran is a costume designer and artist currently based in New York, with a BFA in Experience Design and Production from CalArts. Having learned and worked across India and the US, her artistic vision is shaped by a diasporic upbringing and a deep engagement with culture, identity, and place. Working across film, theatre, dance, and live performance, her costume designs emphasize rich color, textile, and material exploration. She has designed costumes for both devised and more formally scripted dance and theater pieces, teaching her to be a highly adaptable designer, with the ability to pivot or learn new processes as quickly as needed. Her other work includes event-based creative direction, mixed-media collage, and fashion design. She is passionate about community-centered design, forming meaningful relationships, and leading with thoughtful representation. She designs with passion and care for both the story, as well as the comfort and confidence of performers.
