Briana Newson

Briana Newson is a Costume Designer and Constructor, Stylist, and Artist. She holds a BFA in Theatrical Design from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and is a Cody Renard Richard Scholar, where she was mentored by Broadway professionals. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Briana grew up watching and listening to Selena, who inspired her love for performance and costume design. This passion led her to creative direct and design for the Latin Fest Fashion Show at CalArts for three consecutive years, where she explored her Mexican heritage. She also served as Student Union Vice President, creating community, advocating for student needs, and connecting peers with supportive resources. Her passion for community, her Black and Mexican cultures, and the human experience deeply inform her artistic practice. She strives to ensure that collaborators feel comfortable and supported on every project. Her recent credits include Puffs (Theatre), Property Rites (Theatre), CalArts Halloween (Experience), and Paint and Leather (Film).
